Dangerous Animals
audience Reviews
, 73% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsWhat a fun ride! I had not heard of this movie at all before seeing it on the “Early Access” viewing. I liked the synopsis and so glad I checked it out. A serial killer takes girls out to his boat and lets sharks eat them while he recorded. Pretty awful stuff without the movie being overall gory. Thankfully he meets his match in Hassie Harrison’s character. I am a fan of this actress and she is great in this role. Nothing revolutionary, but a unique twist on the serial killer genre and how the kills are done. I enjoyed it and the ending was satisfying if not momentarily cheesy.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsBad ass movie what a twist on the term serial killer!!!!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIt's Psycho on a tour boat. It's Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a shark instead of a chainsaw. It's a decently mounted low-budget genre-mashing Aussie indie horror pitting J-Law lookalike Hassie Harrison's surfer Zephyr and Josh Heuston's Calvin Klein model/reversed gender damsel-in-distress Moses against Jai Courtney's psychotic tour operator with a penchant for filming his young female customers when he's feeding them to the sharks. With further nods to Silence of the Lamb and Peeping Tom, Sean Bryne's direction is unfussy and efficient, though Michael Yezerski's over-enthusiastic score could do with toning down a notch. Nick Lepard's screenplay, on the other hand, is inspired yet sadistic, but it's mostly propelled by characters making bad decisions (frustrating but part and parcel of films of this genre) and continuity errors which contrive to prolong the film to put feisty Zephyr through the wringer as she suffers an exhausting number of near escapes just so we can get to that final comeuppance which is as satisfying as it's predictable. Previous franchise killer Courtney, channeling and looking like an Aussie Tom Hardy here, has finally find his groove in this monstrous creation who's cruel and funny at the same time. While this has all the potential elements for a wild cult horror film that's immensely quotable and fun to watch, it's almost a victim of its own success as I find it so effective and real in creating the squirm-inducing horror (and other excruciating methods of escape) on screen, it kinda crosses the line for me, leaving me with a slightly nasty aftertaste (pun intended). Contrived plot developments aside, there's no denying that this is solidly made film but you will definitely need a strong stomach to endure and/or enjoy this. Love that poster though.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsWay better than I was expecting. The lead nailed his character.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsThere’s a scene when our protagonist chews off an appendage to escape. I definitely could relate, wishing I had chewed off my finger instead of clicking the purchase button for this feature thereby saving myself 90 minutes of my life.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsI went into this thinking Dangerous Animals would be an exciting collaboration between a serial killer thriller and something like Jaws. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. It wasn’t scary or thrilling; it just fell flat. I ended up disliking the characters, which certainly didn’t help. Initially, I thought it might be a positive, diverse film with a narrative connected to the ecosystem of sharks, perhaps exploring how human disruption of their environment might play into the story. That could’ve been a compelling, conservation-focused twist. However, none of that was explored. The film missed the opportunity to offer educational or meaningful commentary on shark conservation. In fact, it ended up feeling harmful to sharks, reinforcing outdated and negative stereotypes rather than challenging them.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSurprisingly awesome summer thriller!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsBetter than I thought but overall theres nothing new you havent seen before in the kidnap movie genre. Difference here is sharks are involved so I guess there is something new. Worth a watch
