Gladiator II
audience Reviews
, 82% Audience Score- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsNo idea why this is getting good reviews. Saw this in the theatre and it is just crap. It tries to be the same story as the first time. It is contrived though. No one cares about the characters and the evil emperors are completely flat. The mother does the same stuff she did in the first movie - meeting the prisoner in jail etc. Just because it is the same director doesn't instantly make it good. Denzel's character is the only real redeeming performance. In the first movie, we really cared for the General who became a gladiator who challenged an emperor. The emperor who killed his father. It was all very compelling. This wasn't even close. It was like they couldn't come up with an original plot and the first one worked, so let's just do that again. Terrible.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsSave your money and your time , watch the original gladiator instead .
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsNot one novel idea to separate it sufficiently from the original Gladiator - which was so marvellous and groundbreaking - to be its own film. At best it is pale by comparison. At worst you’re wondering if the actor’s strike left these guys so broke they’d do anything. Watching them deliver some of the dreadful dialogue was painful. Everyone is raving about Denzel. Is that because he’s a baddy for once? As far as I could see he rolled out the same old schtick he’s used in his grittier films time and time again, so again ‘nothing new’. I mean, he was the best thing in it, but that really wasn’t hard. I travelled an hour to the cinema to see it. I wish I’d stayed at home and watched the original.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAs a stand alone movie it is fantastic. Always going to be tough if you compare it to the original film, which is a masterpiece and modern classic.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsGreat job illustrating how the depravity of Rome has been reborn in the United States. Our days are numbered. The end will not be pretty. But, yeah, the movie sucked.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsIt was good had a good story could have been better yes. But it gave what it promised.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsRegurgitating the original yet entertaining enough.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsToo much CGI, storyline is flat, got bored…
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsLooks like the story was written by an 8 year old. Combat scene are poorely thought, messy and unrealistic. It's just one more silly blockbuster owing much of its interest to CGI. Also, the plot doesn't seem to hold up... why doesn't Lucillus mother simply buy him if she wants to save him ?
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 stars‘Are you not entertained?!’ Well no - I am absolutely not entertained. As a massive fan of the first film I was really looking forward to the second one. However, I can safely say the best thing about Gladiator II is Paul Mescal’s Roman nose…… Mutant baboons (fresh out of the Hunger Games), rhino riding gladiator, sharks in the Colosseum and an absolute nonsense of a story line that didn’t play to any of the actor’s strengths….. terrible. Just terrible. As an equestrian the low points were all the riders galloping along with stirrups and horses apparently chain harrowing the Colosseum surface….. back in the day there would have been slaves for that - horses were more valuable!!! Extremely disappointed - don’t waste your money or time! A completely pile of poo!
