Hell of a Summer tries to be a horror-comedy, but instead lands squarely in the genre of “movies for people who think jumping out from behind a door is peak cinema.” This film isn’t scary, it isn’t funny, and it definitely isn’t clever. It’s a cringe-fest wrapped in fake blood and punchlines so lazy they might as well have been written during lunch breaks. Let’s be honest—horror-comedies are already hit or miss, and this one misses so hard it circles back around and hits the audience in the face with its own stupidity. The jokes are cheap, the scares are recycled, and the entire film feels like a sketch someone should’ve left on YouTube at 3am, not pushed into theaters like it’s doing us a favor. The cast looks like they were pulled from an improv night that got out of hand, and not a single performance manages to rise above Saturday-morning cartoon energy. Characters die in ridiculous ways, yes—but not in the fun, over-the-top Scream kind of way. It’s the kind of slapstick horror that thinks yelling louder makes it funnier, and flinging fake gore around automatically earns it cult status. Spoiler: it doesn’t. If you’ve got a high tolerance for nonsense and a low bar for storytelling, Hell of a Summer might be your thing. But for the rest of us who prefer our horror with actual tension and our comedy with actual wit, this movie is a painful reminder that not every idea deserves a green light. To put it bluntly: Hell of a Summer is horror-comedy for people who think intelligence is optional and taste is negotiable. It’s not just a bad summer—it’s cinematic heatstroke.

This was a run of the mill summer camp slasher film with twists that are so predictable and standard for the genre that I am unsure you can even call them twists at this point. None of this makes it bad, but rather pleasant enough while being forgettable. The only saving grace with this one was that it did have some pretty humorous parts and that bumped up the score slightly and makes sure I remember it for at least a short bit.

the weirdo geeky guy used some of his own money to write and direct a pretty good flick. the girls were very appealing in their mid character looks. a redemption story for the guy who kinda does the right thing. contemporary issues dealt with believably. jason bateman spent some of his producer money helping get this made. you culd watch this and be alright.

Damp summer camp slog fails miserably at irony, satire, humor and horror all of which it veiny attempts.

Got better as it went along. For a small budget film it hit the mark. I was pleasantly surprised!

It was not the worst movie, but I would not pay to see it again.
