Joker: Folie à Deux
audience Reviews
, 32% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWhat a misunderstood film, largely due to misleading marketing tactics. The brave choice to add music to the sequel should have been in all the trailers so as to not mislead the fans of the original. It's a fantastic origin story for harlequin & the music is often raw and not overly pre recorded, a window into the strange insanity of the two. It was cinematically dark & beautiful, the performances were exceptional that ultimately left me wanting to see it again. I'm hoping there's a slim chance of a sequel, I would love to see where gaga takes the character next.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI thought the film was a masterpiece in its own way. I don't understand the all the negative reviews. You have to look beyond what you expect from joker movies should be due to past and knowledge of DC comics and other jokers. This is more phycological and deeper into the mind of joker. Not the villain we all know .. this is the beginning and rise of joker and what made him the way he was. Lady gaga caught the essence of Harley Quinn and with the musical part they couldn't of chosen anyone else to portray Harley the way lady gaga did especially for this type of movie. The musical aspect was great. Something different and added to the craziness of the characters. And just adaption to how Arthur is feeling and where he goes in his mind sort of a coping mechanism. Don't expect this to be the same as the first or something similar to joker in other movies. More dark and phycological type movie and the mind of joker rather than the violence and action. Masterpiece in its own right.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 stars138 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Disappointing is an understatement.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsThis was a waist of 2 hours of your life. You are waiting for something to happen and it never did. Huge miss and letdown
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsJoker: Folie à Deux is a sad disappointment. The film fails to capture the dark, gritty tone of its predecessor and instead opts for a chaotic, over-the-top approach that undermines the characters and the story. The performances, while okayish, are overshadowed by a weak script and a lack of direction. The film's attempts at social commentary feel forced and heavy-handed.. Joker: Folie à Deux is a missed opportunity that fails to live up to the high standards set by its previous movie. Dancing isn't going to make up for bad direction.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsI would rate it lower if I could. It’s a musical of the lesser arts. What is happening with DC movies. Last two jokers were a joke. He’s supposed to be a bad guy, a goon, that can elude Batman. Not some old frail low IQ weird singing idiot. I’m so glad I didn’t spend money on either movie.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThe performance of Joaquin Phoenix once again carries this bloated musical that expresses promising ideas the never hits the landing. The first act is certainly more engaging and should have been the focus of the entire movie as oppose to the frustratingly nonsensical courtroom drama.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsEr... about every 5 years or so I'll leave a review, if I feel absolutely compelled to. Loved it. All of it. The subtlety made it. The madness of Two? The quiet nod to Sonny and Cher. The supporting cast of vile characters without compassion or moral compass. Lady 'Lee' Gaga's mental health being more disturbed and unstable than the Joker's both of which are a lot less of a worry than all the Marvel aficionado's diatribe; lighten up and go get some counselling. The rest of humanity is tired of your tedious rhetoric which we usually just put up with in withering silence.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsUnfortunately, Todd Phillips allowed the artistry to swallow the plot. The first movie was already a slow burn but had an excellent pay off. This sequel, whether intentionally or not, serves as a misguided meta-narrative about the reception of the first movie and the controversy surrounding it. Exploring a story about sensationalism and audiences obsession with larger-than-life figures who allow us to escape our own realities, could be interesting. But it's not... the plot is confined to two locations and neither of them are very compelling or even realistic. And despite what some might say this movie's potential success, didn't lie with just pleasing comic book audiences, the first movie did its own thing, and did it excellently. Where this movie fails is choosing to do nothing but retroactively explore Arthur Flecks character and reframe everything that's already happened by way of a trial. In the end, it's a story about personal triumph over destructive fantasies and accepting reality on realities terms, no matter how bleak. But there's a lack of catharsis in the writing. It feels like an ode to defeatism when the main character resigns themselves to a life of suffering without fighting back, because that's what apparently constitutes reality to the writers. It's bleak, unsatisfying, self serving artistically and at times... very unpleasant to watch for reasons I can't even mention in a review. It's a shame because the exact story being told could've easily landed with audiences if the writing wasn't so mean spirited and cruel towards it's main character. Joker: Folie a Deux failed not only audiences but itself by refusing to reign it's message in or at the very least earn it's darker elements.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsWORST. MOVIE. EVER. I can't believe I waited five years for that! 🤢
