Lake George

It doesn't go where you think it's going to go, but it's very well done.

It’s Coon’s charming performance of the eccentric victim-to-be that brings the film, written and directed by Jeffrey Reiner, into fuller focus as a crime comedy.

In a way, the film is almost a love letter to this beautifully vast, isolating, and underappreciated part of California.

It’s a consistently involving effort that should reward discerning viewers amid the flood of flashier year-end titles.

Lake George rolls smoothly, if a bit slowly, along as a two-handed road movie marked by a few strong set-pieces...

More a black comedy noir than a thriller.

Lake George is a topsy-turvy crime thriller that has touches of dark comedy and is mostly watchable because of the compelling lead performances from Shea Whigham and Carrie Coon. Some of the movie's dialogue is a little forced, but the story is engaging.

An involving film that isn’t attempting to impress with any real visual flourishes. Instead, as a character study with the criminal element allowing for some additional provocation, I had enough fun following these two around.

That the characters matter to Reiner is the biggest takeaway from this scrappy but surprisingly empathetic story.
