Funny, Cynical, Relatable, and a talented cast. Saturday Night gives the audience exactly what they should get out of this biopic. A intriguing behind the scenes telling on what went down on that Saturday night back in 1975. The cast could’ve easily been just straight up caricatures of the OG cast but they disappeared in the roles. In my opinion this movie is up there with Juno when it comes to ranking Jason Reitman’s work. Some points it feels a tad bloated, the runtime can be noticeable at points, (it could’ve been longer)not all the jokes land, but really just nit picks. B

I remember the first show. This film overdramatizes (of course) the events and the behavior of the real actors in this story. Among the most annoying portrayals is of Andy Kaufman being always in character but as a real person. Not true. Also, John Belushi was not nearly so volatile as shown in this film; he was much more professional than depicted. Chevy Chase was not so handsome, etc. etc. — shall I go on? Lorne Michaels, on the other hand, is depicted as a narcissistic schlub, which I'm assuming is reality—you can still see him every SNL show standing around and getting in the way.

The revolution begins at 11:30. Saturday Night is a 2024 American biographical comedy-drama film, directed by Jason Reitman 📺 Not bad, but not my favourite either 😉 It’s ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I’d recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼 At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. This is the story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live.

This is a hard review to write because it wasn't bad but it wasn't good. It was just "there". Loads of "story telling" but extremely thin and flimsy on substance. From what I've read this is more fiction than fact though I could be wrong. It's just a story of what happened the 2 or so hours before they went live. It's very flat. Was wondering in the 1st 10 minutes if the entire movie was going to be "this person going that way, that person dealing with this, this person wondering about that, that random person doing this, this person complaining about that" and, yes, that's exactly what this movie is but repeated about 100 times. It's almost like the movie has zombified ADHD, where it takes an aspect for 20 seconds before forgetting about it and then moving on to another random topic. It was a 1,000 threads but no real fabric. Spent more time trying to figure out where I knew each actor from than actually being invested in what was happening on set.

funny, vast, captures the innovation of the times. highly recommend. great writing, very tough to make a "talky" movie fast-paced. no explosions or aliens, just genius.

A really fun ride with a great cast. I was worried about bad impersonations of incredible comedic performers, but was pleasantly surprised by how well the casting came off. At a certain point you just sink inside the anarchy.

Outstanding cast and direction, I felt the thrill of the live show coming together and the brilliant, complex dynamics of such an environment

I loved this movie because it had a clear focus in the story, the pacing was perfect, and the performers were all amazing with unique charisma while also staying true to the real people being portrayed. Focusing on the pace because it's a key aspect for any movie, and in this one we move fast, but slow down in moments where we really get to soak in the emotion, atmosphere or whatever details we want to take in, which will make the viewing experience a lot more nuanced. This is a great watch, and one of the best I've seen this year. Top 10 for sure. Thank you!!

Grew up with SNL. This movie was absolutely amazing. Funny at some moments and stressful at others. Even though we all know the outcome, the movie leaves you wondering if they will pull it off and if SNL would make it beyond its first Saturday Night. The actor’s that portrayed these legends of comedy were outstanding. Can’t recommend this movie enough. Get out your popcorn and be ready to sit on the edge of your seat, or couch.

Would have been nice to have some of the original cast in there for cameos such as being crew, employees etc. It really does highlight the lack of talent in SNL for most of this century compared to the last. Its a much larger cast now and reliant on guests and star names to carry it
