Disney's Snow White

the jumble of tones and styles laid atop this basic narrative feels like it’s trying to please everyone and ends up pleasing no one.

In terms of just a movie -- that I saw with a bunch of children -- the kids love the movie, and the adults just might want to step back.

A mishmash and a mess of stuff.

Rachel Zegler gives it her very very best shot, and she nearly saves it...

It’s at its best when it’s an old-fashioned song-and-dance princess story, with Zegler and Gadot broad but effective, and at its worst in any scene involving the digital dwarves.

This Snow White, emerging in an era of government-sanctioned cruelty, seems to know exactly what it’s saying, even if it chooses to speak only in a discreet whisper. It’s the right Snow White for this moment.

It does the exactly what we want these remakes to do in expanding on its predecessor...there are some things to like, it just doesn't get there in execution.

Disney is having an identity crisis that has trickled down to its ability to update its best-loved fairy tales into modern remakes.

For this reviewer, who once dreamed of being a princess like Snow White, I'll forgo a true Brothers Grimm retelling if it means the right audience can get butts in theaters for this thoughtful and no less magical bite off the poisoned apple.

The feature is still a wholly and predictably unnecessary one, transforming an animated classic into an overlong adventure, increasing the quotient of musical numbers, shellacking the proceedings with a healthy coating of digital gloss.
