It’s as sweet as its candy-store colour palette, but there’s emotional nourishment in the film’s delicate handling of teen angst and loneliness.

To see Totsuko finally gather the courage to change the things she can is an inspiration to us all, and in “The Colors Within,” Yamada has captured such a key moment in a young person’s life with enormous style and grace.

I don’t think The Colors Within is afraid to take chances. However, I wondered what was holding this movie back from delivering more. Still, it’s a sweet enough film with a solid soundtrack.
