I loved the book, but was disappointed by how much the movie changed. The penguin's inspiration for the school swim team would have been fun to see. Also, in the book the penguin returns to the ocean.

What a massive disappointment. They tried to do so many story lines that they obviously ran out of time at the stage when they were putting the movie together so some of the stories and characters just disappeared half way through. This movie should have had me in tears, but they were only of boredom and frustration. One cannot always squeeze a whole book into two hours and this was one time when they should not have tried.

This film might be OK, if you haven't read the book. But it has had all the charm removed and become a nothing film. Yes, the penguin is cute, but are they making a gentle comedy drama or trying to comment on the political situation in Argentina in 1976? Who knows? They failed on both counts Why have they used Steve Coogan and made him a middle aged drifter rather than a young man tryingto find his way? And the ending is beyond Hollywood kitsch. Don't bother.
