Chris Hemsworth
Australian actor Chris Hemsworth became a star in the U.S. with a series of well-received genre films. Born on Aug. 11, 1983 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, he became a household name in his native country while starring on the popular drama series, "Home and Away" (7 Network, 1988- ). He quickly became a sci-fi sensation across the pond with a brief but memorable role in the J.J. Abrams reboot of the worldwide phenomenon "Star Trek" (2009). But it was not until he landed the lead role in the film version of the comic book hero "Thor" (2011) that Hemsworth truly flexed his muscles, establishing himself as one of the most charismatic young actors of the moment. Lionsgate films quickly capitalized on Hemsworth's popularity by releasing the long-delayed horror feature "The Cabin in the Woods" (2012), co-written by Joss Whedon. Hemsworth would work with Whedon again in the superhero blockbuster "The Avengers" (2012), bringing together Thor and the other characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor reprised his signature Norse god role yet again in "Thor: The Dark World" (2013) and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015). Hemsworth unveiled a more dramatic side in Ron Howard's well-received drama "Rush" (2013), where he portrayed real-life 1970s racing star James Hunt. He further expanded his range with films such as the thriller "Blackhat" (2015), Ron Howard's sailing drama "In the Heart of the Sea" (2015), and two fantasy films based on fairy tales, "Snow White and the Huntsman" (2012) and "The Huntsman: Winter's War" (2016). Showing off his comic chops, Hemsworth appeared in supporting roles for the comedy reboots "Vacation" (2015) and "Ghostbusters" (2016). He continued his success as the God of Thunder with four more Marvel movie installments: "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017), "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018), "Avengers: Endgame" (2019) and "Thor: Love and Thunder" (2022). He starred in the thriller "Extraction" (Netflix, 2020), which broke the viewership record for Netflix at the time. Departing from action movies, Hemsworth participated in the documentary "Limitless" (National Geographic, 2022), traveling the world, exploring mortality and how humans can live longer, healthier lives. Chris Hemsworth has several projects in the works, including the "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015) prequel, "Furiosa."
