Henri Colpi

Colpi cut several of Alain Resnais' best known films, including "Night and Fog" (1955), "Hiroshima mon Amour" (1959) and "Last Year at Marienbad" (1961). He is a considerable director in his own right, primarily thanks to the lyrical, understated "Une aussi longue absence" (1961), which earned the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Colpi is also the author of a seminal book on film history, "Le Cinema et ses hommes" (1947), and a study of film composers, "Defense et Illustration de la Musique dans le Film" (1963).
